This year’s International Women’s Day was marked in Berlin by a public holiday on Friday 8th March. In the preceding four days BBS launched a range of exciting and challenging events in order to celebrate IWD.
The week of activities concluded on Thursday with an assembly that explored the issues and ideas raised, and a retrospective of all the great events that had taken place. Year 8 embarked on a documentary film making project in which they explored the role of gender bias in the Salem witch trials. The History and Politics Club held one of their popular and challenging debates on the issues surrounding the wearing of the hijab and other items of clothing with respect to notions of individual liberty.
A school-wide T-shirt Design competition was held, which received a large number of original and creative responses. The designs were displayed in the Dining Hall, and students voted for their favourite.
